Songshou Rd Night Market Mystery

I'm heading to Taipei next month and plan on spending a good chunk of time exploring Songshou Rd Night Market. Heard it's a bit off the beaten path, less touristy than some of the others. My question… I'm heading to Taipei next month and plan on spending a good chunk of time exploring Songshou Rd Night Market. Heard it's a bit off the beaten path, less touristy than some of the others. My question is: what's the deal with the stall selling only giant squid balls? I saw a picture online and it looked...intense. Seriously, like the things were the size of softballs. Are they actually good? Or is it just a bizarre local legend? I'm thinking of trying one, but I also kinda fear the consequences.

Dude, those giant squid balls at Songshou? They're a thing. I wouldn't call them a legend, exactly, more like... a local phenomenon. They're surprisingly good, though the size is definitely intimidating. Think less "softball" and more "oversized golf ball," but still pretty huge. The texture is different, chewier, more substantial than regular squid balls. The taste is good; savory, slightly sweet, and they do a great job with the seasoning. Worth a try if you're adventurous. But be warned, you might need a nap afterward. They're filling! Also, maybe bring some napkins... things get messy.

oh man, those things are no joke. they're basically the size of a small fist, not quite softball but still a commitment. i've had them a few times, the texture is super bouncy and almost meaty, not what you'd expect from a squid ball. the trick is getting them fresh off the grill when they're still crispy on the outside, the ones that sit around get rubbery. if you're worried about the aftermath just share one with a friend, one is plenty for a snack honestly

Those squid balls are definitely a real thing, not a legend. The stall is run by an older couple who've been there for years, right near the fruit stand at the Songshou Rd end. I'd say the texture is closer to a dense fish cake than a typical squid ball, very bouncy. They're good if you get them early in the evening when they're freshest, the sweet chili sauce they use is a nice touch. Just know that one is a full meal, so don't plan on eating much else after.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
