1500 is doable if u skip the scooter some days. a rental runs 400 to 600 depending on cc & how long u take it, plus gas is cheap but the parking in Pingtung City near the night market gets annoying. food is where u save, a bowl of 肉燥飯 & 湯 at a random 小吃店 is like 60 to 80, breakfast danbing & soy milk 50. that leaves plenty for a hostel dorm around 500 to 700. honestly u could do it but u wont have much left for day trips to 墾丁 or 三地門 unless u cut the scooter

1500 works but the killer is transport between towns. Pingtung is huge and the bus to 東港 or 潮州 eats into your day budget fast, like 100 to 150 round trip depending where. if you base yourself in Pingtung City and stay put most days you're fine, but if you wanna actually see the county you prob need to bump it to 2000 or pick one day trip and budget around it.
