If you know this info for other rames, i'd appreciate if you share with me cause i don't use msg for most of other ramens too

honestly most of the sodium in 진라면 is from the noodle block and the base powder, not the MSG packet itself. if you skip the msg, you're probably cutting maybe 100-200mg max. the 1,760mg is the full packet version so without msg you're looking at around 1,500-1,600mg at best. for other ramens, 신라면 without the msg drops to like 1,700ish and 불닭볶음면 is around 1,800 without the sauce packet, but i dont bother with

the msg packet in jin ramyeon is literally just msg crystals, almost no sodium. you're basically just losing the flavor enhancer not the salt. if you want ramyeon that comes without a separate msg packet, try paldo's gomtang ramyeon - clean broth, no msg packet, and the sodium is around 1,380mg for the whole thing. or just buy the msg packets separately at gmarket for like 3,000won and toss them in your regular jin ramyeon if you want, but honestly the sodium is coming from the base powder and noodle

yeah the msg packet is mostly just MSG and a bit of salt, maybe 80-120mg sodium. so youre still looking at 1600+ without it. if you want something naturally lower, try 농심's 안성탕면 - no separate msg packet at all, and the sodium is around 1,450mg for the whole thing. i just use half the soup base for most ramens and it cuts the sodium way down without killing the flavor

🗺️ Where to Start
Begin your off-the-beaten-path journey in Ikseon-dong, a maze of narrow alleys filled with hanok houses turned into quirky cafes and artisan shops. Unlike the tourist-heavy Bukchon, this area feels lived-in and local. Head to 31-8 Ikseon-dong, Jongno-gu, and just wander.

🏘️ Hidden Neighborhoods
Explore Seongsu-dong, Seoul's Brooklyn, where former factories now house indie boutiques and craft breweries. Don't miss the Seongsu Handmade Shoe Street for unique leather goods. For a quieter vibe, visit Mangwon-dong, a residential area with a relaxed market and riverside parks.

🍜 Off-Map Eateries
Try the kalguksu (handmade noodle soup) at Myeongdong Kalguksu in Jongno, a tiny spot with no English sign but incredible broth. For late-night eats, head to Gwangjang Market's second floor, where ajummas serve bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes) from stalls that have been there for decades. Prices average 8,000 won per dish.

☕ Local Cafe Culture
Skip the chain cafes and visit Cafe Onion in Seongsu-dong, a converted shoe factory with industrial-chic decor and excellent pastries. For a quieter spot, try Daeo Bookstore Cafe in Ikseon-dong, a hidden gem where you can read vintage books over a cup of tea. Most cafes open from 10am to 10pm.

🌳 Quiet Viewpoints
Escape the crowds at Naksan Park, a hilltop with panoramic views of the city and the old city wall. It's free and open 24 hours, but sunset is the best time. Another hidden spot is the observatory at the Seoul City Hall's Seosomun building, offering a unique perspective of Deoksugung Palace without the tourist rush.

🚇 Getting Around
Use the subway to reach these hidden gems; lines 2 and 6 cover most areas. For Seongsu-dong, take Line 2 to Ttukseom Station. For Mangwon-dong, take Line 6 to Mangwon Station. Buy a T-money card at any convenience store for seamless transfers and a small discount on fares.

🌙 Best Evening Spots
After dark, head to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) for its futuristic architecture and the LED rose garden, which is less crowded than during the day. For a local night out, visit the Hongdae area's side streets, where you'll find hidden speakeasies like Alice, an Alice in Wonderland-themed bar with creative cocktails.

💡 Local Tips
Learn a few Korean phrases like 'annyeonghaseyo' (hello) and 'kamsahamnida' (thank you); locals appreciate the effort. Carry cash for smaller eateries and markets, as card machines are not always available. Avoid visiting during Chuseok or Lunar New Year when many shops close for family gatherings.

the seongsu recommendation is solid but i'd add that you should check out the back alleys behind the main street - there's a tiny spot called "onion" that the guide mentions but the real find is "mil toast" a few blocks away where they do this incredible honey butter toast that's like 5,000 won and the line moves fast. also for mangwon, hit the market around 5pm when the fried chicken stalls are just setting up and you can grab a half chicken for 10,000 won and eat it by the river, way better than the crowded evening spots

solid write-up. one thing i'd add for the mangwon market suggestion is the tteokbokki stall near the entrance run by an older couple, it's been there since the 90s and they make the sauce from scratch daily, way better than the chain versions. also for naksan park, go up the stairs from dongdaemun station exit 4 instead of the main path, it's steeper but you get this sudden reveal of the city skyline that catches you off guard every time. the park's night view is actually better than the sunset imo because the city lights up and you can see all the way to namsan tower without the crowds

Good list. I'd add that the Seongsu Handmade Shoe Street is worth a proper look, not just a quick walkthrough. There's a third-generation shoemaker near the end of the main strip who still does custom orders by hand, and you can watch him work through the open front window. He doesn't speak much English but he'll nod and smile if you point at a pair you like, and the quality is way above what you'd find in Myeongdong for about 80,000 won.
