🍜 Start with Bibimbap
Jeonju is the birthplace of bibimbap, and you'll find it everywhere, but the most iconic spot is Hanguk House (ν•œκ΅μ§‘), located at 11-3 Pungnam-dong 3(sam)-ga, Wansan-gu. A classic bowl costs around 12,000 to 15,000 KRW and comes with a stunning array of vegetables, raw beef, and a fried egg. For a modern twist, try Bibimbap Chon (λΉ„λΉ”λ°₯촌) in the Hanok Village, where they serve a spicy tuna version for 10,000 KRW.

πŸ₯© Grilled Meat Delights
For a hearty meal, head to Gaejeonggol (κ°œμ •κ³¨) in the Gaejeong neighborhood, known for its charcoal-grilled pork belly (samgyeopsal). A set for two costs about 30,000 KRW and includes side dishes like kimchi and ssam vegetables. Another favorite is Hwangsaengga (황생가) in the Hanok Village, where you can try their signature grilled beef ribs (galbi) for 25,000 KRW per portion.

πŸ— Street Food Favorites
The Nambu Market night market (λ‚¨λΆ€μ‹œμž₯) is a must-visit for street food, open from 7 PM to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Try the famous 'Chokong' (cheese and corn dog) at stall 12, priced at 3,000 KRW, or the crispy fried chicken skewers at stall 5 for 4,000 KRW. Don't miss the hotteok (sweet pancake) stand near the main entrance, which sells for 1,500 KRW each.

🍢 Traditional Makgeolli Spots
To pair your meal with local rice wine, visit Mojang (λͺ¨μž₯) in the Hanok Village, a cozy tavern offering a variety of makgeolli from 5,000 KRW per bottle. They serve delicious pajeon (scallion pancake) for 12,000 KRW, perfect for sharing. Another option is the famous 'Lee Seongdang' (이성당) bakery, which also has a small bar area where you can sample their house makgeolli for 6,000 KRW.

🍰 Sweet Treats and Cafes
For dessert, stop by the iconic PNB (Pungnyeon Bakery) at 22 Pungnam-dong 3(sam)-ga, famous for its chocopie, which costs 2,500 KRW each. The cafe 'Cafe Daehakro' (카페 λŒ€ν•™λ‘œ) in the Hanok Village offers a beautiful view of the traditional roofs, and their signature rice cake latte is 6,500 KRW. If you're in the mood for shaved ice, visit 'Sulbing' (μ„€λΉ™) in the Gaejeong area, where a bowl of injeolmi bingsu is 9,000 KRW.

🍒 Late Night Eats
When the sun goes down, head to the area near Jeonju Station, where you'll find numerous pojangmacha (tented street stalls) serving skewers and tteokbokki. A plate of assorted skewers costs around 10,000 KRW, and the spicy rice cakes are 5,000 KRW. For a sit-down option, try 'Gukbap Alley' (κ΅λ°₯골λͺ©) in Gaejeong, where you can get a hearty beef soup with rice for 8,000 KRW, open until 2 AM.

πŸ’‘ Foodie Tips
Many restaurants in the Hanok Village close by 8 PM, so plan your meals accordingly. For the freshest ingredients, visit the morning markets like Nambu Market (λ‚¨λΆ€μ‹œμž₯) before 10 AM, where you can grab a quick breakfast of bibimbap or soup for under 7,000 KRW. Don't be afraid to try the local specialty 'kongnamul gukbap' (bean sprout soup with rice) at any of the small eateries near the city hall, usually priced at 7,000 KRW.

That guide nails the big spots, but I'd add one thing: skip the Hanok Village bibimbap lines entirely and walk ten minutes to the Gaejeong area for a proper gukbap crawl. My favorite is the tiny place on the corner of the gukbap alley, the one with no sign, where the ajumma remembers your order after one visit. Their kongnamul gukbap at 7,000 KRW is the best hangover cure I've found in the city, and it's open at 6 AM when the tourists are still asleep.

Also, if you're at Nambu Market on a Saturday night, don't queue at the famous chokong stall. Go two stalls down to the one selling yukhoe (raw beef) wrapped in perilla leaves, it's 5,000 KRW and far more memorable than any corn dog. The stall number changes but you'll spot it by the older couple working, they've been there for years and the beef is always fresh.

solid list, the bibimbap recs are spot on. but if you're here on a weekday lunch, skip the tourist spots and hit the basement food court at the Hyundai department store near Gaejeong. sounds weird but the dolsot bibimbap there is 9,000 won, comes with this insane broth on the side, and you get a table without waiting. the ajummas running it have been there for like 20 years.

also for late night, everyone talks about the station pojangmacha but there's a smaller cluster behind the city hall that's way more local. the one with the blue tarp does a mean sundae (blood sausage) plate for 8,000 won and they'll throw in extra liver if you ask nicely. open till like 3am most nights. get the spicy sauce on the side, not on top, it's better that way.

The guide's spot on about PNB chocopie, but go to the original Pungnam-dong location early, like right when they open at 10. The line gets insane by noon and they sell out of the fresh ones fast. Grab a box to take home, they're way better than the ones you find in the airport shops.

Also if you're around on a weekday morning, the little stall inside Nambu Market that does kimchi jeon and makgeolli breakfast sets is a hidden gem. It's not in any guide I've seen, just follow the

Gyeongju is doable but it's a long haul for a day trip, around 3 hours each way by bus from the Jeonju terminal. You'd spend more time on the road than actually seeing the tombs and Bulguksa. If you want mountains without a car, look at Daedunsan instead. There's a direct bus from Jeonju to the cable car base, takes about 90 minutes, and you can hike the Geumgang stairway and be back in Jeonju by evening. Much better use of a day.

if you're open to something other than mountains, Damyang is an easy one. buses run from Jeonju intercity terminal a few times a day and it's roughly an hour, you can do the bamboo forest and Gwanbangjerim in a morning. tbh its more of a half day thing but the food street there is worth sticking around for. Maisan is another option if u want two weird horse-ear peaks, bus goes from Jeonju to Jinan and the trail is short enough to be back by dinner.

jeonju to jeonju station is ur friend here, the train to Iksan is like 15 min and from Iksan there are KTX options if u wanna push further. but honestly for a no car day trip i'd say check out Gochang, buses go from the intercity terminal and its maybe an hour, the dolmen sites are a unesco thing and there's a fortress too. less crowded than the usual spots & the local food scene is solid, their bokbunja stuff is everywhere
