The Goncharov House Museum on ulitsa Goncharova has a great garden out back that most tourists walk right past. The wrought iron bench under the old apple tree gives you a frame for shots of the mansion's facade that feels like a 19th century postcard. Also worth the climb is the observation deck at the top of the Venets hill, you can get both the Trinity Church spire and the Volga in one wide shot if you stand at the eastern railing.

if you want something a bit different, head up to the pedestrian bridge on ulitsa minayeva that crosses the railway tracks. you get this wild contrast of old soviet apartment blocks and the modern trains passing underneath, especially good in the late afternoon when the shadows get long. also, the view from the top of the karl marx monument stairs is underrated, you can frame the cathedral dome behind the bust and it looks very ulyanovsk

honestly the best spot is the overlook near the Lenin Memorial, right at the confluence of the Volga and Sviyaga rivers. go around sunset and youll get that golden light hitting the water and the bridges, it's pretty iconic. if you want something less obvious, wander down to the old wooden houses on ulitsa Lva Tolstogo, there's this one tucked-away courtyard with a faded blue facade that looks amazing in the morning light
