🥟 Must-Try Local Dishes
Start with pierogi, especially the Russian-style ones filled with potato and cheese, at Bar Mleczny Turysta (ul. Kaszubska 3). Another local favorite is szczecińska zupa rybna, a hearty fish soup found at many milk bars. For a quick bite, try zapiekanka from a street stall; the one near Plac Grunwaldzki is open until 2 AM.

🍽️ Top Restaurants
For a sit-down meal, book a table at Restauracja Kaskada (ul. Jana z Kolna 2), known for its modern Polish dishes and river views. Expect mains around 50-70 PLN. Another solid choice is Paprykarz (ul. Wielkopolska 21), which serves fusion cuisine with a focus on local ingredients.

🌮 Street Food Scene
The street food market at Łasztownia, near the Oder River, is a must-visit on weekends from 12 PM to 8 PM. Try the pulled pork tacos from the truck called Smaki Łasztowni for about 25 PLN. Also, look for the zapiekanka stand at Plac Grunwaldzki, open late.

🥐 Breakfast and Bakeries
Start your day at Piekarnia Cukiernia (ul. Wojska Polskiego 45) with fresh pastries like drożdżówki for under 5 PLN. For a sit-down breakfast, head to Café Kredens (ul. Bogusława X 12), which serves eggs and coffee from 8 AM. Don't miss the local specialty, szczeciński pasztecik, a meat-filled pastry available at Pasztecik (al. Wojska Polskiego 46).

🍰 Sweet Treats
For dessert, visit Lody na Patyku (ul. Krzywoustego 12) for artisanal ice cream at 8 PLN per scoop. The flavors change seasonally, so try the poppy seed or plum. Another spot is Cukiernia Sowa (ul. Wyzwolenia 45), known for its cheesecake and apple pie.

🍺 Evening Eats and Drinks
In the evening, head to Browar Stara Komenda (ul. Panieńska 9), a brewpub with a menu of hearty Polish dishes like bigos and kiełbasa. Mains are around 40-60 PLN. For a more casual vibe, check out the food trucks at Aleja Kwiatowa on Friday nights.

💰 Budget-Friendly Options
Milk bars (bar mleczny) are your best bet for cheap eats; try Bar Mleczny Turysta (ul. Kaszubska 3) for a full meal under 20 PLN. Another affordable option is the student cafeteria at Uniwersytet Szczeciński (al. Papieża Jana Pawła II 22a), open to the public for lunch. Expect to pay 15-25 PLN for a two-course meal.

🚋 Food Neighborhoods and Transit
The Old Town (Stare Miasto) is packed with restaurants and cafes, easily reached by tram lines 1, 2, and 5. For a more local scene, explore the Pogodno district, where you'll find family-run eateries along ul. Wojska Polskiego. A 24-hour tram ticket costs 15 PLN, making it easy to hop between food spots.

Solid guide. One thing missing: the Saturday morning farmers market at plac Tobrucki has amazing smoked fish & local honey, way better than any restaurant breakfast. Get there before 10am though, it winds down fast.

Nice roundup. One thing I'd add for the sweet section: the pączki at the small bakery on ul. Jagiellońska near the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle are better than the chain stuff, and they sell out by mid morning. Also, if you're near Łasztownia anyway, the ice cream kiosk by the marina does a solid kawa na wynos while you watch the ferries.

Skip Paprykarz and go to Karczma Pod Kogutem on ul. Wyszynskiego for proper domowe obiady, two courses for under 40 PLN.

🍽️ Cheap Eats in Szczecin
For a filling and affordable meal, head to a milk bar (bar mleczny) like Bar Mleczny Kaskada at ul. Malczewskiego 10, where a two-course lunch costs around 15-20 PLN. For street food, try the zapiekanka stands near the train station or the paszteciki at Piekarnia Aslan (various locations) for under 5 PLN. A budget dinner of pierogi at Przystanek Pierogarnia (ul. Wyszyńskiego 12) will set you back about 20-25 PLN. Keep an eye out for daily lunch specials (zestaw dnia) at many restaurants, often priced at 20-25 PLN from 12:00 to 16:00.

🚌 Getting Around on a Budget
Szczecin's public transport is cheap and efficient. A single 15-minute ticket costs 3.40 PLN, while a 24-hour ticket is 15 PLN. Buy tickets from vending machines or via the mobile app (e.g., mPay or SkyCash) to avoid surcharges. The city is also very walkable, especially the Old Town and Łasztownia areas, so you can save money by exploring on foot. For longer stays, consider a 72-hour ticket for 30 PLN.

🏨 Affordable Accommodation
Hostels in Szczecin offer dorm beds from 50-70 PLN per night, with places like Hostel Szczeciński (ul. Monte Cassino 19) being a popular choice. For a private room, budget hotels such as Hotelik Elka (ul. Struga 10) start at around 120 PLN per night. If you're traveling in a group, consider renting an apartment via Airbnb or Booking.com, where prices can drop to 150 PLN per night for a two-person flat. Book in advance during summer and festival weekends for the best rates.

🏛️ Free Things to Do
Many of Szczecin's top attractions are free to visit. Stroll through the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle courtyards (ul. Korsarzy 34) without paying for the museum, or explore the vibrant street art in the Niebuszewo district. The Wały Chrobrego promenade offers stunning views of the Oder River and is perfect for a picnic. On Sundays, many museums like the National Museum (ul. Staromłyńska 27) offer free admission, so plan your visit accordingly.

🎟️ Discounted Attractions
Szczecin offers several budget-friendly attractions. The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle museum costs 20 PLN for adults, but students and seniors pay only 10 PLN. The Szczecin Philharmonic (ul. Małachowskiego 48) has cheap tickets for some events, starting at 30 PLN, and often hosts free lunchtime concerts. For a unique experience, visit the Szczecin Underground Tourist Route (ul. Panieńska 15), where tickets are 25 PLN, with discounts for families. Always ask about reduced fares with a valid student ID or ISIC card.

🛒 Local Saving Tips
Locals save money by shopping at bazaars like Plac Tobrucki, where fresh produce is cheaper than in supermarkets. The Biedronka and Lidl chains offer weekly discounts on staples, and you can find reduced-price items in the evening. For entertainment, check out free events at the Szczecin Cultural Center (ul. Andersa 4) or the free walking tours offered by local guides (tip-based). Also, many bars and cafes have happy hour deals from 17:00 to 19:00, so plan your socializing accordingly.

💧 Water and Snacks
Tap water in Szczecin is safe to drink, so carry a reusable bottle and refill it at public fountains or in your accommodation. For snacks, visit local bakeries like Piekarnia Grzybowski (ul. Wojska Polskiego 18) for fresh bread and pastries at low prices. Supermarkets like Carrefour Express often have discounted items near closing time. Avoid touristy shops in the Old Town for snacks; instead, head to a nearby Żabka convenience store for affordable drinks and sandwiches.

💳 Money-Saving Apps
Download apps like Jakdojade for public transport schedules and mobile tickets, which can save you time and money. Use Groupon Poland to find discounts on restaurants and activities in Szczecin. For accommodation, compare prices on Booking.com and Airbnb, and look for last-minute deals. Also, check the Szczecin tourist card (Szczecin Card) if you plan to visit multiple museums; it costs 40 PLN for 24 hours and includes public transport and museum entries.

Bar Mleczny Turysta, better than Kaskada

arrow_drop_up 22 arrow_drop_down

Kaskada closes at 18:00, weekends too

Solid list, saving this for my next trip. One thing I'd add: the Sunday free museum thing is worth double-checking before you go, I think some of them only do it outside peak season. Also the evening markdowns at Biedronka are legit, I grabbed hot counter stuff for like half price around 8pm.
