the guide got it right with brovaria but honestly i think the best thing on their menu is the pork knuckle with sauerkraut, it's huge and perfect with a pint of their dark lager. also if you're around stary rynek on a weekend morning, check out the little bakery on the corner of ul. ΕΌydowska for fresh paczki, they sell out by noon. one thing i'd add is that the milk bar at ul. garbary can get packed at lunch, so go around 11:30 if you want a seat

The zapiekanka stall on ΕwiΔty Marcin is fine, but the one at the Taczaka Street food truck park (ul. Taczaka, just off the square) is better in my experience, they use a proper sourdough base and it's about 16 PLN. Also, if you're after a truly local beer experience, skip Brovaria on a Friday night when it's packed with tourists and walk five minutes to Piwna Stopka on ul. Wroniecka, they have a rotating selection of smaller Poznan breweries on tap and the bartenders actually know their stuff.
solid guide, i'd add that the st. martin's croissant from cukiernia sowa is worth the hype but the original recipe one at cukiernia pod kozioΕkami on ul. szewska is even better, slightly less sweet and more poppy seed. also for a proper sit-down polish meal without the tourist markup, try gospoda pod kogutem on ul. paderewskiego, their duck with apples is around 45 pln and the place is mostly locals. and if you're near the imperial castle, the food hall at plac wolnoΕci has a stall called pyzy na winie that does those potato dumplings with a mushroom sauce that beats any restaurant version i've had.
Best photo spots in Poznan?
If you want something a bit different from the standard shots of the Old Market Square, try heading to the rooftop terrace at the Imperial Castle. You get a great view over the city center and it's usually much quieter than the Town Hall tower. For a hidden gem, walk to the corner of ul. SwiΔtosΕawska and ul. Garbary where you can frame the old tenement houses with the modern skyscraper behind them. The contrast makes for a really interesting photo.
fwiw the best spot I know is Stary Browar's courtyard at golden hour. the light hits that glass roof and brick walls just right, makes everything glow. also check out the balcony at the National Museum, it faces the square and you get a nice elevated angle without climbing a tower
honestly, the Cathedral Island side at sunset gives you a killer reflection of the water. way less crowded than the main square too.
