Is Malate safe to walk at night in 2026?

Is the area around the boarding house fine to walk from a nearby convenience store that late, or should I just grab a Grab door to door?

just keep your phone in your pocket on Adriatico, trikes and foot traffic thin out past midnight so walk fast or pay the 80 peso fare.

Fair point on the phone. One thing to add: the side streets off Mabini (Julio Nakpil, Maria Orosa) go dark early, so stick to the lit main road even if it's a longer loop. Grab from NAIA is around 250 to 350 pesos that late, worth it with bags.

the 7-11 stretch on Pedro Gil stays lit but the side of Rasmia gets pitch black after 1, so a trike from there is worth it

grab door to door at that hour

agreed, and book the ride before baggage claim since the pickup bay gets chaotic with touts

Tapped my visa fine at Chang last trip but teh terminal was offline once so keep 500 pesos cash on u.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah those card machines die every few hours in manila, 500 is smart but grab a gcash at a 7-eleven too if ur staying a while

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

gcash at 7-eleven needs a ph number fyi

arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the offline thing is real, mabini st area seems worse for it than bgc in my experience. if u need a backup, the 7-eleven across from the cafe does cash in and the atm there usually has a queue worth skipping. just budget the 250 peso withdrawal fee into ur thinking

arrow_drop_up 21 arrow_drop_down

Mabini ATMs empty by 6pm too

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

bgc terminals def hold up better, agree. one thing tho, the cash in fee at some 7-elevens adds up too so do fewer bigger withdrawals rather than topping up small amounts

offline once is optimistic, twice on a tuesday for me

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Fair call on the 500, though I'd double it if you're near the bigger malls, since their ATMs can be finicky too.
