Dating in Manila 2026: where do people actually meet?

Do people mostly meet through friends and apps, or is asking someone out at a cafe like Chang Coffee & Tea still a thing? Curious what surprised foreigners most about the norms.

tbh the group date thing threw me. people rarely go one on one at first, it's usually barkada hangouts at places like Assembly Hall or a coffee spot in BGC before anything's official. apps exist but friends-of-friends still carries more weight.

Same at Saguijo on a Tuesday, whole barkada shows up.

the coffee shop in BGC matters less than whose cousin vouched for u

And the "gatekeeper" friend never gets told.

Gatekeeper gets the 9pm debrief though

pasalubong from the cousin seals it

One thing that surprised me on a visit is how much texting happens before a real meetup, sometimes weeks of it.

yeah the weeks of texting is real, voice notes too

Fe-Bulous Canteen in Manila, worth a stop in 2026?

go before noon, like 11:30, or the office crowd from nearby buildings fills teh place fast. order the pork BBQ with rice first, cheap and reliable. sisig is good too but the BBQ is what I'd get on a first visit.

arrow_drop_up 13 arrow_drop_down

yeah 11:30 is right, i'd add that the queue moves fast so don't skip it just cause it looks packed

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

It's a proper carinderia-style canteen, not a cafe, so go for the sisig and expect a lunch queue by noon.
