Apps dominate in BGC and Makati, but friend setups still carry weight, and I'd say coffee shops in Kapitolyo beat bars for first dates.

Fair point on coffee shops over bars, though I'd add Ortigas and Quezon City to the mix since the crowd skews less scene-y. The bigger detail is that group dates (kasama ang barkada) still happen a lot before anyone goes one on one. Curious whether you found that too.

I'm not based in Manila so take this with a grain of salt, but I visited last year and Great Shakes is fine, just not a pilgrimage. If you're staying in that area, the nearby streets have better options for a proper shake, and the small cafes around the side roads tend to be quieter in the mornings. Worth walking a few blocks before committing.
