The 6-month tourist visa extension at the Bureau of Immigration on Magallanes Drive is your best bet, just don't miss the ACR I-Card step.

Agree on the ACR being the trap, but the real snag is the annual report every January. Miss that and you're paying fines at the airport on the way out. Also bring your passport copy plus the receipt from your last extension, they always ask for both.

Annual report only kicks in once you've got that long stay status, so for a few months it probably won't hit you. Keep every official receipt though, they stack up and officers do ask for the older ones.

Also worth knowing the extension gets approved in stages of two months at a time, so ask for the full six upfront instead of assuming one window covers it.

I'm not based in Manila so take this with a grain of salt, but I visited last year and Great Shakes is fine, just not a pilgrimage. If you're staying in that area, the nearby streets have better options for a proper shake, and the small cafes around the side roads tend to be quieter in the mornings. Worth walking a few blocks before committing.
