Skip it, carinderia fare is better near Quiapo.

honestly just eat wherever you land first day, then hit Zeny's for a proper lunch once the jet lag clears.

yeah agreed, just note Zeny's is more of a silog breakfast spot, so go morning after you've slept, not lunch.

Good call on the morning thing, the tapsilog hits better when you're actually awake. Just check their hours first since some of these spots close early afternoon.

That's the right call. One thing though, the place is on a side street off Recto and tricycles won't always know it by name, so have the barangay landmark ready. Cash only too.

Bring small bills, they rarely break a 500.

tbh i wouldnt make Zeny's your first meal straight off a flight. it's decent cheap eats, nothing you need to cross town for on no sleep. grab from NAIA is prob 250 to 350 pesos depending on traffic, jeepney is cheaper but confusing with luggage. eat near your hotel first day, hit Zeny's once you've adjusted. lunch rush there is real, go closer to 2pm.

What do locals actually pay for a basic coffee and a plate of food at these neighborhood canteens in 2026? I'd rather know the going rate than haggle blindly.

Around 80 to 120 pesos, coffee and rice meal.
