Honestly this gets asked every week. Go mid-afternoon when the ihaw ihaw stalls are still grilling, and bring small bills cuz teh vendors never have change.

just follow the crowd to whatever stall has the longest line & skip the ones with pre cooked trays sitting out

I'm visiting in 2026 and staying near Fe-Bulous Canteen, and I'm trying to work out whether it's fine to walk back to my hotel after dinner around 10pm or if I should just grab a Grab instead. I've walked around there after dinner and it felt fine on the main lit streets, but I'd still grab a Grab past 10pm. Side streets off the main road get quiet and poorly lit fast, so stick to the busy ones if you do walk.

Yeah agreed, though I'd add that even the main roads thin out fast after 11 so don't count on crowds that late.

Fair, though the stretch by Remedios circle stays lit and busy later than most side streets round there.

That stretch holds up because of the 24 hour places near the circle, not just the foot traffic. Once you get past the church toward the river side though it goes dark and empty pretty quick.

The tricky bit near Fe-Bulous is the stretch along Adriatico toward the Malate church end, which gets patchy lighting once the restaurants close. If you're walking, stay on the Quirino side where the convenience stores keep things lit. Otherwise book the car, drivers are easy to flag there.
