What's the actual going rate at canteens like this in 2026, and how do I tell if I'm being overcharged?

Prices vary by stall so compare a couple nearby before committing.

and watch if the menu has two prices

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Two-tier menus are the norm around Carriedo, so check both sides.

the laminated one on the counter is usually the real one, the one on the wall is for show. if they hesitate when u point at the counter copy thats ur answer. i got burned once paying 120 for a 55 peso tapa

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Spot on, also check the wall chart version.

arrow_drop_up 8 arrow_drop_down

Numbered ones are the real menu, unnumbered are padded

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Ignore the chalkboard entirely and ask for the handwritten tally slip they keep behind the counter, that's where the real charge gets written.

arrow_drop_up 10 arrow_drop_down

agree, also try the side streets off Recto past 2pm

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah comparing is the move, but do it at the same time of day. a stall charging 60 at lunch might drop to 45 by late afternoon when the office crowd thins out. ask what the last customer paid, not the sign

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

just ask a local to order for u tbh

Which visa or permit do I actually need to apply for, and what documents trip people up at the Jameron Electronics area offices or immigration? Any idea how long the extension usually takes?
arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

just get a 9(a) tourist visa then extend at the Intramuros BI office every 2 months, that covers 4 to 5 months fine. The ACR I-Card is teh thing that trips people up, you'll need it once you pass 59 days. Bring extra passport photos, they always ask.

arrow_drop_up 25 arrow_drop_down

the annual report thing in january catches people too, you file it at BI even if ur visa is still valid

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

also book an online appointment before going, walk ins at the main office get turned away fast

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

emigration clearance certificate is the one nobody mentions, get it at BI main before you leave or you get flagged next trip
