Amsterdam food tips for a trip?

I'm heading to Amsterdam in about 4 months and want to eat well without breaking the bank. Any local favorites or hidden gems I should check out? I'm heading to Amsterdam in about 4 months and want to eat well without breaking the bank. Any local favorites or hidden gems I should check out?

for real dutch food that isn't touristy, try moeders on rozengracht. it's a bit tucked away but the stamppot is legit, like 15 euros for a big plate of mashed potatoes with sausage and gravy. feels like eating at someone's grandma's house. also, if you're near the nieuwmarkt on a saturday, the organic farmers market has these cheese stalls where you can sample before buying, way better than the overpriced shops on the singel

Skip the hype around the rijsttafel places in the city center and try a toko instead. Toko Oriole near the Dapperbuurt does a killer nasi rames for around 8 euros, it's basically a mini rijsttafel in a takeaway box. For something sweet, head to Van Stapele on the Heisteeg, their cookie is 3.50 and they bake them fresh all day, just go on a weekday afternoon to avoid the queue.

honestly skip the tourist traps on Spuistraat and head to Foodhallen near De Hallen for a decent variety without the markup. for a solid cheap bite, try Omelegg in de Pijp, their portions are huge and it's like 10 euros for a proper breakfast. if u want something more local, a broodje kroket from a FEBO wall is like 3 euros and hits the spot after a few beers, just don't expect fine dining. also check out Albert Cuypmarkt for fresh stroopwafels and cheap herring from a stall, that's where the locals actually go
