I went to a Vaqueros game at the Estadio Olímpico Andrés Quintana Roo last week, and man, the sound in that place is something else. It's not just loud, it's this weird echoey thing, like the sound bounces off something unusual. Felt like I was in a giant, concrete mixing bowl. Anyone know what causes that? Is it the design of the stadium, or something else? I'm kinda curious because it was pretty distracting, honestly. It added to the atmosphere, I guess, but in a strange, almost unsettling way

yeah thats the concrete bowl effect, the Andrés Quintana Roo was built in the mid 80s with those big open curved stands and almost no acoustic paneling so sound just keeps bouncing. its worse when the Vaqueros ultras bring the drums to the north end, that side reflects straight back across the field. tbh i kinda like it for baseball but for concerts its rough, i saw a show there once and the vocals turned to mush.

part of it is just the neighborhood. the stadium sits low in SM 21 right off Av Chac Mool and there's nothing tall around to absorb or break up the sound, so it kinda rolls out and back. compare it to a place like the bullring downtown where buildings on all sides eat the reverb.

also if u go when it's half empty the echo is way worse. full house bodies soak up a lot of that reflection. weirdly the loudest games sound the cleanest

the roof over the east stand is the real culprit, its a corrugated metal sheet and it acts like a reflector aimed back at the pitch. sit behind home plate and you get the slapback a half second later, sit along the foul line and its way cleaner. also check the schedule, they host a lot of stuff besides vaqueros games so the sound changes depending on whether the stands are full or half empty

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
