Everyone says it's beautiful, but the online reviews are... sparse. I'm wondering if anyone's experienced some of the supposedly "unexplained happenings" people whisper about? I've heard stories about flickering lights and unsettling sounds at night. It's totally adding to the mystique, honestly, but I'd also like to know if it's just old house creaks or something more... spooky. Is it actually haunted, or is that just local folklore building up the anticipation?

the whole haunted thing is mostly just the owners playing it up for bookings tbh, they used to run a small hostel in tulum that did the same thing with a "ghost tour" gimmick. the house itself was built in the 90s, not some colonial relic. if you want real weird energy, walk down to the abandoned xpu-ha eco park about 15 mins south, that place has actual creepy vibes and no marketing team behind it

i've stayed there a couple years back during low season when it was just me and the property manager. the flickering lights thing happened to me too but i noticed it was always right after the water pump kicked on, so probably just wiring from the 90s build. the unsettling sounds though, that's definitely the howler monkeys at dawn and dusk, they sound like something out of a horror movie if you're not used to them. honestly the spookiest part was walking back from the beach at night with no streetlights, the jungle feels way closer than you'd expect

oh i know the place, it's actually closer to puerto aventuras than playa del carmen proper. the flickering lights are probably just the generator kicking in, that area loses power all the time when it's windy. the sounds are real though, there's a cenote nearby and the water echoes through the limestone caves at night, sounds like someone whispering sometimes. the old caretaker told me it's just the groundwater shifting, but honestly the vibe is worth leaning into even if there's nothing supernatural going on

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
