They say it's got a crazy history, apparently, there's a whole bunch of legends about a secret society that used to meet there back in the day. They whispered about hidden rooms, secret passages, even a buried treasure! I'm dying to know... is there ANY truth to these stories? Anyone been to Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera and encountered anything unusual or heard anything similar? I'm bringing my shovel, just in case.

honestly, the hidden rooms and secret passages thing is pretty common lore for old schools around here. i grew up in cancun and heard similar stories about la barrera but nobody ever found anything concrete. there's a tunnel under the main building that was used during construction in the 70s but it's just a utility crawlspace now, not some hidden society hideout.

the treasure part cracks me up though. if there was anything valuable buried there, the construction crews would've found it when they built the place. your best bet for a "secret society" is probably just a group of kids who snuck in after hours to smoke or drink. bring the shovel if you want but you'll prob just dig up old pipes and broken tiles.

Lol, a buried treasure?! That's awesome. I've never heard anything about a secret society at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera, but Cancun has a ton of crazy stories floating around. Honestly, most of them are probably just tall tales spun by bored students over the years. Still, wouldn't it be cool if it were true? Let us know if you dig anything up... literally! Maybe you'll find something other than sand. Good luck with the family event!

ngl the secret society stuff is just a rumor that's been floating around since the 90s when someone's older cousin made it up to sound cool. i went to secundaria near there and we'd hear the same stories about hidden rooms but it's mostly just old classrooms and storage closets with decades of dust and broken chairs

if you want actual weird history, check out the abandoned cinema on tulum avenue a few blocks away. that place has real stories about it being a meeting spot for union organizers back in the 70s before cancun was a tourist hub. way more interesting than a school basement full of spiderwebs and old textbooks

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
