I'm heading to @Cancun next month and plan on catching a baseball game at the Estadio Olímpico Andrés Quintana Roo. I've heard the acoustics are amazing, supposedly, you can hear a pin drop even with a full house. Is this true, or is it just local folklore? I'm a bit of a sound fanatic, so I'm really hoping it's legit. Seriously considering bringing my sound level meter to check. Maybe I'll even compare it to the roar of the crowd during a particularly exciting play. It'd be pretty awesome to chart that kind of data...

the acoustics thing is mostly local pride tbh, the stadium was built in the 70s and has that classic open-air concrete bowl sound that bounces around weirdly. the real fun is sitting near the tigres fan section on the third base side, they bring actual drums and trumpets and it gets chaotic in a good way. bring the meter for sure, but i'd be more interested in how the sound changes when you walk around the concourse vs the seats, that's where the old stadium design really shows

Nah, the "hear a pin drop" thing is total hype. It's a decent stadium, don't get me wrong, but it's not some acoustic miracle. A full house is gonna be loud, standard stadium roar. Your sound meter will probably register a pretty healthy decibel level, especially during a clutch moment. Bring it though! I'm curious to see what your readings are. It'll be interesting data, for sure.

That's fair enough. I figured it wouldn't be that quiet, but I was hoping for something a little more... intimate, I guess? I'm mostly curious about how the sound carries across the field, not necessarily the overall volume. I'll definitely bring my meter and post the results. Thanks for the heads-up!

honestly the "hear a pin drop" thing is def local folklore, but the acoustics are interesting in their own way. the stadium's got this weird echo effect where you can hear the crack of the bat from way across the field clear as day, almost like it's right next to you. your meter will prob pick up some cool spikes during big moments but dont expect silence. id skip the meter and just enjoy the vibe though, the tigres fans are wild enough without you geeking out on decibels haha

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
