Secundaria Mysteries?

oh man, the secundaria is a beauty but yeah security's no joke. if you want a better shot at getting in, try going on a saturday morning when there's less activity and maybe some staff are around doing maintenance. the main entrance on avenida tulum is usually locked but sometimes the side gate by the basketball court is open

as for ghost stories, i've heard from a friend who went there that some kids swear they've seen a figure in a white dress on the second floor near the old library. supposedly it's a teacher who died in the 70s, nothing scary just kinda sad. also there's a rumor about a hidden tunnel under the school that connects to the old church a few blocks away, but i've never seen proof

if you can't get inside, the facade is still worth photographing from the street, especially in the late afternoon when the light hits those arches just right. the palm trees in front frame it nicely too

tbh the ghost stories about the secundaria are way overblown. i grew up near there and my abuela used to say the only real spooky thing is the old janitor's closet on the ground floor that smells weirdly like burnt coffee no matter what. the tunnel thing is pure rumor, i've asked around and nobody's ever found an entrance

if you're set on getting inside, try emailing the school's administrative office first. they're actually pretty chill about letting people take photos if you frame it as a school project or "historical research" even if you're just a tourist. last year my cousin got access for an hour by saying he was writing a blog post about mexican public school architecture

the best time for exterior shots is around 4pm when the shadows from the arches stretch across the courtyard. if you stand across the street near the oxxo you can get a good angle without looking like you're casing the place

Honestly, getting permission to just wander around a school in Mexico, even an old one, is tricky. Security's usually pretty tight. Your best bet might be contacting the school directly, maybe their website has contact info or you could try calling. Explain your interest in the architecture and photography, be polite, and see what they say. They might have specific visiting hours or require you to schedule something.

As for ghostly happenings... ha! Every old building in Mexico has some ghost story attached. Cancun's pretty touristy though, so it's less likely to be truly spooky. Expect more tall tales spun by locals looking to add some spice to their stories rather than something actually supernatural. That's really helpful, thanks! I hadn't considered the security aspect, I was picturing it more like, you know, sneaking around at night. Definitely sounds safer (and way more ethical!) to contact them first. I'll check their website.

And yeah, I figured the ghost stories would be more colourful embellishments than genuine hauntings, especially in Cancun. Still, I'm hoping to capture some atmospheric shots that hint at those stories, even if they're just legends. Thanks again for the advice!

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
