Tung Shin's Secret?

So, I'm heading to @KualaLumpur next month and staying near Tung Shin Hospital. I've heard whispers, locals say it's more than just a hospital...like, seriously old, with a history that's kinda spooky. Anyone know any good (or bad!) stories about the place? I'm a sucker for a bit of urban legend, maybe some cool architecture too. Hoping to get some insider tips before I wander around it. Seriously though, is it haunted?

The hospital sits on Jalan Pudu, and the stretch between there and Puduraya is where you'll actually feel the old KL. If you're staying nearby, the Pudu morning market is a few minutes walk and runs from about 5am, that's a better slice of living history than chasing ghosts. As for the spooky stuff, most of it traces back to the Japanese occupation when the area saw its share of grim business, so the stories aren't entirely invented. The old wing still has those colonial-era shophouse bones if you look up past the modern signage.

Tung Shin's been around since 1881 under a different name, and the original building on Pudu Road is the old school part worth poking around. The spooky rep mostly comes from it being next to the old Chinese cemetery grounds back in the day, so you get all the usual ghost stories from that. If you're into architecture, walk over to the Sin Sze Si Ya temple on Jalan Tun HS Lee, way better old vibes than the hospital itself.

honestly why is this on a Q&A site, just walk down Jalan Pudu and look up. whole area used to be called Pudu village before the city swallowed it, hospital included. the ghost stuff is just old cemetery talk recycled, nothing you wont hear about any kopitiam this

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
