It looks quiet and residential on Google Maps, which is kinda what I'm looking for after the hustle and bustle of the city center. Anyone know of any good local Kopitiams or hidden food stalls around there? I'm really into trying authentic Malaysian food, the less touristy the better. Heard some amazing stories about the street food scene in KL and I'm determined to experience it firsthand. Maybe even a good spot to grab a late night teh tarik? This trip is all about soaking up the local vibe, you know? I'm hoping Jalan Limau Purut won't disappoint.

Limau Purut is pretty dead food-wise but the walk down to Jalan Ampang proper opens things up. There's a row of shops near Ampang Park side with a nasi kandar place that runs till like 2am, solid for teh tarik and roti after a late night. If you're there on a Sunday morning the pasar tani near Pekan Ampang is worth the grab ride, way more local than anything in the city center.

Jalan Limau Purut is off Jalan Ampang, near the Korean Village area, so it's more residential than food street. For kopitiam vibes you'd be better off walking to Jalan Ampang Putra or heading down to the Ampang Point area, there's a decent mamak near the old Ampang LRT for late night teh tarik. If you really want to stay put, the warung under the flats does nasi lemak in the mornings, closes by 10am usually.

honestly why are you asking on a Q&A site for a street address, just walk around when you get there

but fwiw Limau Purut is basically houses and a surau, not a food destination. the good stuff is a bit further out. if you want late night

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
