I've heard whispers of some pretty wild stuff, apparently, there are some seriously old buildings on campus with, shall we say, interesting pasts. Anyone know any good (and maybe slightly spooky) local legends or stories about the place? I'm always up for a bit of campus exploration beyond the lecture halls. Got any tips for finding these hidden bits of history?

There's a tunnel system under the old Faculty of Medicine building that most people don't know about. It was used to transport bodies from the morgue to the anatomy lab back in the day, and some students swear they've heard footsteps echoing when no one's down there. The entrance is boarded up now near the back of the building, but you can still see the old iron grate if you walk around the perimeter. Not spooky, but the old clock tower near the chancellor's office has a mechanism that's been broken since the 1970s and supposedly chimes by itself at 3 AM every now and then. Grab a teh tarik at the Restoran Kuali opposite the main gate, the uncle who runs it has been there since the 80s and loves telling stories about the early days.

You want the old exam hall building near the main entrance, the one with the green dome. The story is that during the 1970s student protests, a group of activists barricaded themselves inside, and the authorities cut the power. People still report seeing a single candle flickering in the top-floor window on certain nights, even though the building has been locked for decades. If you go, do it at twilight, the light plays tricks on the old stained glass and it's genuinely eerie.

The old sports complex near the Rimba Ilmu entrance is worth a look. It's been abandoned for years, and there's a rumour that a caretaker died inside during a storm and his radio still crackles to life on certain nights. If you want something less spooky, head to the Faculty of Arts building. The main staircase has a mural from the 1960s that depicts the university's founding, and it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Grab a coffee at the Rimba Ilmu cafe beforehand, the staff there have been around forever and know all the stories.

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
