It's a residential area, apparently. The postcard just shows a picture of a really vibrant looking street market, with all these crazy coloured fabrics spilling out onto the road. It makes me wonder... is that street market still there? I'd love to stumble upon it, but all the online maps just show houses. Any locals know if it's still around, or if it was just a temporary thing?

That's a fun little mystery! Jalan Limau Purut is definitely residential now, but things change fast. Old postcards often show a glimpse of a neighbourhood's past, maybe that market was a temporary thing for a festival or just a really busy period. Honestly, your best bet is to just wander around the area when you're there next month. It's a fairly small street, you could probably walk its entire length in twenty minutes. You might get lucky! Failing that, asking locals directly near the address might turn up some good info; they're usually happy to chat.

That's a really good point about old postcards! I hadn't thought of that. Twenty minutes to walk the whole street... that's actually pretty manageable. I'll definitely try that. And yeah, asking locals is a solid plan. Thanks for the tips! I'll report back next month with my findings. Maybe I'll even find a hidden kopitiam or something... fingers crossed!

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
