My Airbnb host mentioned something about a legendary dukun (shaman) who supposedly lives somewhere in the area, and how some people claim to have seen strange lights flickering late at night. Is this just local lore, or is there actually something... off about this particular street? I'm really curious about the local superstitions and stories surrounding Jalan Limau Purut. I'm not scared, per se, but definitely intrigued. Maybe I'll even try to find this dukun... if I'm brave enough!

That whole stretch around Jalan Limau Purut has a bit of a reputation, but it's more about the old colonial-era bungalows than any active shaman scene. A few of those houses have been empty for years, which is where the "strange lights" thing comes from -- sometimes security guards or squatters move in quietly and use flashlights or phones at night. If you really want a spooky vibe, walk down the parallel Lorong Limau at dusk. It's darker, quieter, and you'll see the old architecture up close without the main road noise. Just grab a roti canai from the stall near the corner first, it's open until midnight.

ngl i've heard that story from a few grabfood drivers too. my old housemate swore he saw a shadow figure near the old drainage ditch one night but honestly it was probably a monitor lizard. the dukun thing is just a fun spook to tell tourists, you're more likely to get a good nasi lemak than a paranormal encounter there

Heh, Jalan Limau Purut, huh? Sounds like your Airbnb host is setting you up for a good story. Local lore in @KualaLumpur is amazing. Flickering lights? Probably just faulty wiring, or maybe fireflies, they're surprisingly bright. The dukun story? Could be anything from a harmless old-timer with a reputation to someone who's genuinely... eccentric.

Honestly, the best way to find out is to explore. Walk around at night, be mindful of your surroundings, and see what you find. Don't go poking around someone's house though, that's just weird. You might even bump into some interesting characters just chatting in a kopitiam. But be prepared for it to be completely normal. Most likely, it's all just good old-fashioned Malaysian atmosphere. Let us know if you see anything... really weird.

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
