Hey everyone, Aria here.

Jakarta native, been in Japan for 7 years. Just graduated and now rocking the 9-5 corpo life.

Not gonna lie, Japanese companies can be pretty intense compared to the foreign scene.

Uni life? Don't get me started, it was a wild ride, working at night, hitting campus in the morning with a solid 3 hours of sleep for 4 years straight.

Now, adulting is hitting me harder, even with a decent night's sleep. Overtime? Oh yeah, at least 30 hours a month. Still, it's somehow more draining than my student days. No idea why.

And here's the plot twist: post-grad life, my Japanese buddies are keeping their distance. I get it, making real friends here can be tricky with all that honne and tatemae stuff. But man, didn't expect it to hit this hard.

So, anyone in Tokyo, Yokohama, or Kanagawa? Let's chill sometime. Open to whatever, just need some connection. I'm all about concerts, exhibitions, and photography. Love hitting those up solo, but I'm thinking it's time to open up and meet new people before it gets even lonelier.

Hit me up, folks! Desperate for some human connection. Expecting those invites, haha.

machida's actually got some solid live houses if you're into smaller gigs. shimokitazawa gets all the hype but places like machida the game or club hippo have a way more relaxed crowd, easier to chat with people between sets. the photo scene around yokohama's osanbashi pier is worth checking too, that building has killer views of the bay and i've seen people doing portrait sessions there on saturday afternoons. for the work drain, it might be the mental load more than the hours, corpo japan just eats at you differently than the survival mode of uni life

the commute from machida into shinjuku is only 30 mins on the odakyu line which is nice for weekend plans but yeah the loneliness thing is tough. have you tried the machida ginkgo festival in november? its a solid photo op and the crowds are manageable plus you can wander up to serigaya park after for some quiet. the overtime sucks but at least machida has those late night ramen spots near the station like toriyoshi that are open till like 2am if you get off work late.

yeah the culture shock after graduating is real, i went through the same thing. if you're into photography, theres a good spot up by yakushiike park in the fall with the autumn leaves, not many people know about it. also if you ever want a lowkey place to just decompress after work, theres a sento in naruse that's open late and barely anyone goes there on weeknights

the start moved to the shinjuku area near the metropolitan government building, and shinjuku station west exit puts u about 10 min walk away. get there by 6:30am if u want a spot at the barriers, the elite wave goes off around 7:10.

Yoyogi Park side is quieter for photos

Good shout, Shinjuku Chuo Park side works too.

chuo park is solid but the barrier along the west side of the park gets you closer to the actual start line

yeah and Tochomae station puts you right underneath, 1 min

Marunouchi line gets packed by 6, take Toei instead.

worth adding that the west exit gets chaos with road closures from about 6, so coming up from the south side of the building is calmer. bring cash for a konbini coffee, the queues there are brutal
