Hi,

while I'm generally happy here, there is one thing I miss: a massage therapist who understands the specific problems of people working in front of screens all day -- specifically

the spot under the right shoulder blade that is tense from holding a mouse at a slightly wrong angle because we do not have adjustable shared desks at work

neck muscles because two widescreen monitors were a bad idea but it's annoying to go back to one

What I'm looking for is somewhere in between the normal massage places and a proper physical therapist. I don't want to relax for half an hour, I want the pain to go away and be able to turn my head properly again.

Is there some place like that, preferably in the east (Chuo, Katsushika, Edogawa)?

yeah that seitai rec is solid but if you want someone who really gets the whole "two monitors wrecked my neck" thing try sakura massage in kiba. its not fancy but the old guy there used to be a physical therapist for some big tech company back in the day. he does this specific stretch for the trapezius that feels like youre breaking but then you can actually look left again. 40 min for 4000 yen, cash only. take the tozai line to kiba station and its a 3 min walk from exit 4

honestly you want a 整体 (seitai) place not a massage place. theres one in kameido called kameido seitai-in that focuses on desk workers specifically. the guy there showed me the exact pressure point for mouse shoulder and it was like magic. 30 min session is like 3000 yen and you can just walk in weekdays. theyre used to people who cant turn their necks left haha

if you're in edogawa, there's a spot near kasai station called 整体院 和 (seitai-in nagomi) that's pretty good for this stuff. the guy there used to work at a sports training center so he gets the whole "my body's wrecked from sitting still" thing. he'll do this specific technique on the rhomboids that's a bit uncomfortable but works way better than a standard massage. 40 min for 4000 yen, cash only though so bring some

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
