if you're into more experimental or electronic stuff, head to contact in shibuya. it's a cramped basement venue but the crowd is super into gear talk and there's a listening bar vibe before shows start. also, the vinyl shop 'disk union' in shinjuku has a basement floor where staff play random records and people just stand around chatting about production or rare pressings. good way to meet producers or collectors without any pressure
honestly if you're in shimokitazawa, three steps down has a tiny back room that turns into a jam space after midnight. it's not advertised, you just gotta ask the bartender. also the jirokichi record bar in koenji is full of old heads who'll argue about jazz fusion vs 80s city pop for hours. bring a turntable needle or a weird b-side to break the ice

sunny deli is more of a quick lunch counter tbh, for laptop mornings i'd hit a doutor or excelsius instead, wifi's steadier & nobody blinks if u stay till 11

yeah the 30 min cutoff is real, though at some branches it's closer to an hour if the store's half empty. excelsius doesn't do that re-auth thing at all in my experience, which is why i default there for longer stretches

agreed on the lunch counter thing. but the 11am thing depends on the branch, the ones near office blocks like Otemachi start getting the salaryman rush around 11:30 & u can feel the side-eye. aim to wrap by 11 if ur in that kind of area
office block branches switch to full lunch mode even earlier on fridays, like 11 sharp, so watch the calendar not just the clock. honestly the side eye starts when the trays come out, not at a fixed hour
