Christmas Dinner in Tokyo?

Previous posts talk about restaurants many years ago and some of them don't exist anymore. Would maybe consider something quite pricey but preference is for a decent, cosy place that offers classic Western Xmas food. Planning to avoid KFC! :)

actually one place i dont see mentioned is the restaurant at the hotel niwa tokyo in jimbouho. they do a christmas course with roast duck and chestnut soup, not the usual turkey thing, and theres a small garden with lights that makes it feel really intimate. runs about 14k and the hotel has this old tokyo vibe that most places dont bother with anymore

oh man, if you want cozy and classic without the insane price tag, try the restaurant at the shibuya excel hotel tokyu. their christmas dinner is like 7000 yen for a full roast turkey plate with all the sides, plus the dining room is warm and has huge windows looking over the scramble. it's not fancy but it feels super christmassy and you can watch the chaos outside while eating your stuffing

fwiw the capella tokyo in otemachi does a proper christmas dinner in their lobby lounge and it's way less crowded than the ritz. they do a good roast beef and yorkshire pudding situation, not just turkey. about 25k yen per person but the service is really warm and the fireplace makes it feel like actual christmas

another option is the brasserie viron in shibuya, they do a three course christmas set with roast chicken and a really good buche de noel. way more casual and around 8k. no view but the bread is legit since they run the bakery downstairs

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
