I need help installing the right custom firmware. Since this is kind of a grey area....not sure I can walk into a shop and ask. Does anyone know a shop or a person that can do this?

Thanks

There's a little electronics shop in Shinjuku called K's Lab, tucked in a side street just off the east exit near the Yodobashi Camera. The owner does firmware mods on older handhelds and never asks questions about the ISOs, he just checks the motherboard model and loads the custom firmware from his laptop. It's cash only and he usually charges around 2000 yen, but you might wait a bit if he's repairing a console ahead of you.

akihabara is ur best bet but i'd try the smaller stalls in radio kaikan rather than the big shops. some of those old guys have been modding consoles since the phat ps2 days and they're way less fussy about legality stuff. just bring the psp and a usb cable, point to the firmware version u want and they'll get it done in like 15 minutes. expect to pay around 2000-3000 yen

tbh you could just go to the psp repair guy in ogikubo, it's a tiny shop called game repair lab near the south exit. he's an older dude who's been fixing sony handhelds since the psp launched and he doesn't care about cfw at all, he'll just ask if you want pro c or infinity and do it in like 5 mins. cash only and he charges 1500 yen for firmware stuff but sometimes adds 500 if your battery isn't holding charge. just google map it and walk past the onigiri place, you'll see a yellow sign with a psp drawn on it in marker

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
