Free events to meet people?

I just got here and not sure on where to go to meet people. I'm into drawing and running if it helps. I just got here and not sure on where to go to meet people. I'm into drawing and running if it helps.

ngl the running scene at the imperial palace loop is probably ur best bet for meeting people organically, theres always clusters of runners stretching near the haneda exit around 6:30am and it's super easy to just ask someone about their route. for drawing, the free art nights at the tokyo international forum in yurakucho are worth checking, they do a "sketch the architecture" thing every second wednesday and the building itself is wild to draw with all those glass curves. also theres a tiny gallery in kichijoji called cafe zenon that does drink-and-draw on monday nights for like 300 yen, way quieter than the shimokitazawa spot and the owner lets u stay as long as you want if ur buying tea

there's a place called the tokyo art meetup at cafe muji in yurakucho every other tuesday night, it's free and you just bring whatever you're working on, people are chill about chatting between sketches. for running the koto city riverside path near the tokyo gate bridge is pretty empty even on weekends, good for getting in miles without dodging tourists. also the 100 yen sketchbooks from seria are actually better quality than daiso's imo, the paper holds up to light washes if you're into that

another angle - the meetup app has a "tokyo creative runners" group that does exactly what you're into, they meet at the shinjuku gyoen maingate on sundays at 8am, run a 3k loop then sit on the grass and draw for an hour. it's like 20 people and super low pressure. for solo drawing spots the rooftop garden at shinjuku marui annex has benches and a decent view, free to enter if you take the stairs up from the 7th floor. and if you want running buddies without a formal group just hang around the imperial palace loop on weekday mornings around 7, tons of runners and it's easy to fall in step with someone doing the same pace

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
