Dating in Tokyo 2026: Where Do People Actually Meet?

Do people actually meet at places like The Anchor in Shimokitazawa, or is it all apps and gokon setups? Curious what the norms are for a first date here and whether the bar scene still matters.

the anchor is fine but its more of a friend group spot now, people dont really cold approach there. most first dates i know start at a kissaten or a chain izakaya in shibuya, low pressure & easy to bail. gokon still huge with the office crowd tbh

yeah kissaten first dates are real, but honestly nakameguro or ebisu beats shibuya chains, way less chaotic and u can actually hear each other

Ebisu's tiny basement bars near the station are great for that, though Nakameguro gets packed with couples after 8 on weekends.

true about the weekend crowds, weekday nights before 7 those basement spots are dead quiet

Both work but Ebisu's quieter side streets beat the station crush, and Daikanyama next door is even calmer for a second date.

Spot on about the Anchor, that cold approach ship sailed years ago. Gokon is fading a bit with the younger crowd though, a lot of them just do casual coffee meets off the apps now. Office crowd still keeps it alive for sure.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

apps are the whole map now tbh, bars are just background noise

kissaten works but the real move is a standing bar in Koenji, cheap and nobody cares if u leave after one drink

Standing bars work but Koenji gets loud after 9, so aim for that 6 to 8 window when you can actually talk.

Fair, though gokon skews older than you'd think.

best time to visit Inokashira Wildlife Park in Tokyo 2026

fmd_goodWildlife Park · #park #tokyo #squirrel
honestly the Inokashira Wildlife Park bit is small but chill, way less crowded on weekday mornings. anyone know if teh squirrel trail is still open in 2026? heard they were doing some work on it honestly the Inokashira Wildlife Park bit is small but chill, way less crowded on weekday mornings. anyone know if teh squirrel trail is still open in 2026? heard they were doing some work on it

The squirrel trail (risu no michi) reopened last spring after the netting repairs, so it should be running through 2026 barring anything new. Go right at 9:30 opening, the squirrels are hungriest then and you'll have the path mostly to yourself. Weekday mornings also mean the zoo gate on the Mitaka side has no queue, unlike weekends when it backs up past the benten pond.

yeah 9:30 is right, but the line actually forms at the Kichijoji side gate too once the park fills up. grab a coffee at the little stand near the pond first, works out better.

Squirrel feeding closes at 4, not dusk.
