the COE itself is your employer's job, they file it at the nyuukoku kyouiku center for you. what trips ppl up is the zairyuu card pickup at the airport and registering your address at the ward office within 14 days. do that yourself, no scrivener needed.
yeah and don't forget the 14-day clock starts from when you land, not when you get your address sorted, so book the ward office trip early.

Worth knowing the Pepe building itself locks up around 11, so use the street-level elevator on the west side after that.
The Shinjuku Foodland by the station closes at midnight now, but the Maruetsu Petit near Shinjuku-sanchome stays open 24 hours if that helps.
maruetsu petit sanchome is solid but the sanchome stn exit side one is smaller, go the other entrance for a fuller shelf
Good tip on the entrance. I've found the shelves back by the dairy stay stocked longer than the front ones.
