best day to visit Ueno Zoo in Tokyo 2026?

fmd_goodCity Zoo · #tokyo #pandas
Coming to Tokyo in April 2026 and want to hit Ueno Zoo. Is a weekday morning actually quieter, or is it packed either way? Also heard the pandas draw huge lines, any tips on timing that? weekday mornings are def quieter but april means cherry blossom crowds at Ueno Park spill into teh zoo entrance around 10am. get there at 9 when gates open, go straight to the panda house before the queue builds. tuesdays and wednesdays tend to be calmest, mondays some schools do trips. also check the zoo's closed days, they shut certain mondays in spring.

tuesdays and wednesdays still fill up once the sakura peak hits cuz that's when tour groups schedule. id aim for the first week of april before everything blooms honestly

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

good call on the closed days, they post teh calendar on the zoo site a couple months out so check before locking dates. one thing to add: the panda house has a separate timed entry ticket now, grab it at the gate right when you walk in or you'll be waiting regardless of how early u show.

yep, and the 500 yen gate ticket sells out by 9:30

Sakura season shifts the whole schedule, mid-March really.

Image isedore local ·

the panda house itself shuts 4pm, line cuts off earlier

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down
Image susanna local ·

yeah and if u miss the cutoff they close the queue without much warning, staff just pull the rope. last time i went the line was gone by like 3:15. so don't bank on squeezing in late.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Mondays aside, the week after Golden Week in early May is genuinely dead, way quieter than anything in spring.

9am opening still means a scrum at the gate, so buy ur ticket online the night before & skip that line entirely

Also worth knowing the zoo clears out around 2pm when the school groups leave, so an afternoon visit after that is surprisingly easy.

Best bagels near Hole in One Tokyo 2026?

fmd_goodHole in One · #tokyo #train #bagels
Staying near Hole in One and need a decent bagel in the morning. Is it worth going early or does it get packed by 9? Also is there a train pass that covers getting around that area? arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

bagel-wise, i'd just go at opening if u can, queues build fast after 8:30 on weekends. for trains a suica or pasmo covers basically everything around there, no need for a special pass unless ur doing day trips.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down
Image korneliahe… local ·

yeah weekends get rough but weekday mornings before 8 are pretty chill, i usually walk in no wait. one thing tho, suica works but if ur doing a lot in one day the yamanote loop is cheap enough that a pass barely saves anything

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Image ina local ·

agreed on the timing. one thing tho, the lines aren't just weekends, holiday mornings like golden week get silly too. suica's the move, icoca works fine as well if u already have one.

mister donut nearby instead, ngl

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down
Image yuinaka local ·

tbh the mister donut on the corner is fine but their coffee's weak, id rather grab a conbini iced coffee and walk

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Image maria local ·

donuts arent really a bagel substitute tho. the mister donut near hole in one is fine for a cheap sit but if u actually want a bagel to takeaway the conbini ones at 7-eleven are honestly closer to what ur after
