Best bluefin tuna sushi in Tokyo 2026?
sushi zanmai in shinjuku is my go to for akami & chutoro without the otoro price. their lunch set runs about 2000 yen & the tuna is solid for the money. if u want something better quality try the standing counter at uogashi senryo in tsukiji outer market, cheaper than the famous spots & the maguro is fresh off the boats most mornings

Zanmai's lines are hell at noon so hit it right at 11, and skip weekends unless you enjoy queueing with tourists.
Uogashi Senryo is solid but the outer market counter gets packed by 8, so I'd aim earlier than most people think. If you're near Tsukiji anyway, the little stalls along Harumi-dori sell decent maguro blocks to take home, cheaper than any restaurant plate.
Nakajima in Shinjuku does a cheap sardine lunch but their maguro sashimi at dinner is the underrated pick around 3000 yen.
Good call on the maguro sashimi there, most people just book it for the sardine lunch and never look at the dinner menu. Worth noting the dinner seats need reserving a few weeks out, walk ins rarely get in.

Fair point on the booking window, though I'd say call rather than use the web form since tables seem to release a month out. Also worth asking for the three cut tasting by name, otherwise you just get the standard plate.
Their maguro sashimi is actually a tasting of three cuts, so ask for it by name or you'll just get the standard plate.

most city-run spots stay free or close to it, tbh. ueno zoo is like 600 yen, and that's the same whether ur foreign or not. budget for food and trains instead, that's where the money actually goes
The TMG observatory is free for everyone, foreigner or not, just queue at the south entrance before 8:30am.
Yeah, still free and no foreigner surcharge. Just bring ID for the security check and note the north observatory closes earlier, so aim for the south one if you're going late.
also skip the observatory cafe, walk 5 min to the 7-Eleven on the B1 level for coffee instead
FamilyMart on the 32nd floor is closer.
B1 shop shuts at 5pm on weekends so hit the vending machines on the 2nd floor instead
