Tokyo Marathon 2026 start point: worth the early wake?

Does that kind of work in Tokyo pay enough to cover rent here, or is it just a side gig? Curious what the going rate is in 2026.
arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Staff gigs like that are usually dispatch through Keiyaku社, maybe 12,000 to 18,000 yen, so it's beer money not rent money.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

keiyaku dispatch usually skims 20 percent off the top too so ur take-home lands nearer 10k

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down
Image finchen local ·

Agree, closer to 9k after tax

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Image meike local ·

Pacers get about 15,000 yen for the day.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Shinjuku dispatch agencies take a cut too.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Image cirsten local ·

Fifteen thousand sounds about right for race day, though the unpaid briefing the night before eats into it.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Image carsta local ·

That 15k is before tax and the mandatory briefing, so take-home lands closer to 10k.

arrow_drop_up 17 arrow_drop_down
Image meike local ·

Plus the 8 percent withholding on the day rate, so 10k is optimistic once you count the briefing.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Image lina local ·

the briefing night is unpaid too

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Image mayk local ·

yeah 10k is realistic once you factor in the briefing and the early start. also they dont cover your train fare if you're coming from outside the loop, so depending where you live you can knock off another few hundred yen

Daybreak Cafe still worth it in 2026?

fmd_goodDaybreak Cafe · #coffee
used to hit daybreak cafe on weekend mornings before the crowds showed up but havent been since they changed the layout. is the coffee still as good or has it gone full instagram spot in 2026. also do… used to hit daybreak cafe on weekend mornings before the crowds showed up but havent been since they changed the layout. is the coffee still as good or has it gone full instagram spot in 2026. also do they still open at 7 on saturdays

weekday mornings r the move now, sat queue starts around 7:40 & the layout killed the old corner table i used to camp at

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Image kim local ·

still opens 7 on sat, got there at 7:10 last month and had my pick of seats. coffee's held up, the layout just made the window counter tighter so it feels busier than it is. go before 8 & ur fine

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down
Image danny local ·

yeah 7:40 is when it flips, before that ur good

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Image danny local ·

the window counter thing is real but the back room by the washroom stayed quiet when i went at 7:15

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Image sannaulmer local ·

Agree on the 7:10 window, though I'd grab the back room by the washroom since the window counter gets cramped once the sun hits.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Image danny local ·

7:10's the sweet spot, pastries go by 9

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Image sannaulmer local ·

Coffee quality hasn't slipped but the pastry case got smaller and the seating is more first-come chaos now.
