best wildlife reserves near Tokyo for 2026 trip
Nokogiriyama in Chiba has wild monkeys and hawks along the trails, about 2hrs by train and ferry from Tokyo.
Deer, not monkeys: Nara is the actual spot, three hours.
yeah the monkeys are mostly around the ropeway station, and tbh the ferry route via Kanaya is teh nicer half of the trip
Japanese macaques, though, not "wild monkeys" exactly, they're provisioned.
Hawks are easier from the summit lookout, early morning.

those "trail" sightings are mostly right around the ropeway station, not the summit loop. pls actually walk the far side trail past the temple or u just see the same fed group everyone photographs
The far-side loop past Nihon-ji rewards you with real raptor sightings, but bring proper shoes, the descent is slick after rain.
good tip on the shoes, the granite steps near the observation deck stay wet till midday even after a dry night
Two hours is optimistic unless you time the ferry at Hamakanaya right, the Keisei and JR connections through Kisarazu eat twenty minutes. Go on a weekday morning, the ropeway queue on weekends kills the whole point of an early start.

Tapped's maybe 6-7 min on foot from the station, easy. For something different try Mikkeller Tokyo near Shibuya, or if u want tiny and local, Watering Hole in Yoyogi does great Japanese taps.

Agree on the detour, but go early since that Baird spot fills up fast on weekends and the taps rotate often.
check their hours first, that spot closes early some weekdays & the walk from the station is longer than it looks

The walk from Shibuya to Mikkeller is uphill and annoying, take the Hachiko exit and cut through the backstreets instead.
good call on the walk, tho Mikkeller's Shibuya taproom closed so check their current spot before u go.
