I'm visiting Tokyo later this year and Boil & Bake keeps coming up when I search for bagels. Is it worth planning a stop around, and what should I order there? Boil & Bake's everything bagel sells out by mid-morning so go before 10 and grab the sesame with shio kombu butter.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Second this, the shio kombu butter is teh move.

Mentaiko cream cheese is the other sleeper

the shio kombu butter is what i get too but ask them to warm it, cold butter on a cold bagel is a waste. they also do a miso honey schmear on weekends that nobody talks about

arrow_drop_up 18 arrow_drop_down
Image esther local ·

warming it is key but i always ring ahead for the miso honey since they only do a small tray & it vanishes by noon

Image anna local ·

ask for it on the rye if they still have it, holds up way better than the plain for the walk to yoyogi park

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

It's the one thing I'd queue for there, though I'd take it on the poppy seed rather than the plain. Also worth knowing they're closed Mondays, which catches people out.

arrow_drop_up 25 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, get there by 9 on Saturdays.

yep 10am is about right, though weekends theyre gone closer to 9:30, and the plain with honey walnut cream cheese is the underrated pick

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down
Image elselotte local ·

weekend queue moves fast once the first train crowd hits so 9:15 is safer than 9:30 honestly. honey walnut is good but i switch to their blueberry when it shows up, less sweet & the fruit actually tastes like something

Crumb's shokupan is the sleeper hit, better than the croissants people queue for. Weekends after 9am the line snakes past the corner, so go on a weekday or right at opening.

Line's worse on Saturday, go Sunday instead.

Image wanda local ·

yeah the shokupan sells out by noon too

Shokupan's usually gone by early afternoon too.

the curry pan, grab it before 10

Image tina local ·

good call, theyre usually down to a couple by 10:30 tbh, and the mentaiko one goes even faster

Weekday opening still means 8am sharp, and the anpan goes before the croissants do.
