Late night diner food in Tokyo 2026: where to go?

Which parts of Tokyo are actually fine for late diner food around 1 or 2am, and which ones should I avoid walking through at that hour? I'm mostly after a Route 9 Diner type spot, nothing fancy.

Kanda and Ueno are solid for late grub, but skip Roppongi backstreets after 1am, too drunk and pushy.

Shinjuku 3-chome, 2am; avoid Kabukicho backstreets.

yeah 3-chome is fine but the trick is staying on the Yasukuni-dori side, the moment u drift into the side lanes it gets sketchy. For a proper diner feel at that hour I'd honestly just hit a Matsuya or Sukiya, they're everywhere and open 24h.

Golden Gai's alleys are fine until about midnight, then the touts come out, so stick to the main drag.

Agreed, and the old-style diners like Jonathan's or Denny's near the station stay open 24h, way safer than wandering the side lanes.

Ichio, 3-chome, open till dawn.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

3-chome works but the walk there from the station is the sketchy bit, those covered streets empty out and get dodgy around that hour. do u mean the izakaya strip or the west exit side

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Kabukicho's fine past the east exit, just skip the touts

tbh the touts are the real issue more than the backstreets themselves, they get pushy round 2. Just walk past, don't make eye contact. Oh and the covered arcade by the east side gets weird quiet after 1, stick to the main road.

Nakameguro, Jonathans about 1.30, quiet walk after.

Best deli sandwiches near Market Deli in Tokyo 2026

fmd_goodMarket Deli · #lunch #sandwiches #deli
Anyone else grab lunch at Market Deli on the regular? Their sandwiches are solid but I wanna know what else is good nearby, thinking of trying somewhere new this week. honestly if you're already at Market Deli just walk 3 min to Doutor on the corner, their katsu sando is cheaper and the coffee's fine. not fancy but tbh I grab it more than the deli these days.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Fair warning the Doutor katsu sando sells out by about 1:30, so go before the office crowd hits.
