The Edogawa cycling path on the Chiba border side is worth the ride from Adachi, wide and flat with barely anyone on weekday afternoons. If you want closer, the Shibakawa near Kameari has a short but genuinely empty towpath.

Shin-Nakagawa bridge end, quieter than the main stretch.

good shout on the shibakawa, tho the towpath dead-ends near the ohashi so plan a loop back through the backstreets. for the longer ride i'd start at horikiri and follow the levee south, way fewer dog walkers than the upper stretch

arakawa shizen kouen, the north stretch past iwabuchi

Second this, the dirt path past the rugby ground

yeah thats the one. go past the iwabuchi sluice and it gets real quiet, hardly anyone up there on weekday mornings. bring water tho, no vending machines once u cross the bridge

Past the sluice gate the path turns to gravel around the Toden Arakawa line crossing, so wear shoes you don't mind dirtying.

Wear proper shoes, the gravel runs to Kohoku bridge.

Kita-Ayase side, early Sunday before 7

If you're willing to go a bit south, the Kyu-Nakagawa path near Ryogoku is surprisingly calm on weekday mornings. Not the main Sumida promenade, the smaller channel side, mostly locals walking dogs. Path's narrow in spots but you rarely share it.

Is Funland in Yokohama worth the trip compared to the bigger parks, and how much should I budget for tickets plus food?

funland in yokohama is small, like half a day tops, and the rides are aimed at families with young kids. for a proper day out from central tokyo i'd do yomiuriland instead, keio line from shinjuku gets u there in about 25 min. budget roughly 6000 to 8000 yen for a ride pass plus 2000 to 3000 on food, the park eats are pricey

yeah and the keio line gets packed on weekends, go weekday

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down
Image veronica local ·

weekday mornings before 9 are dead quiet too, and the keio line empties out past chofu so grab a seat there

yomiuriland's evening pool and illumination in spring are worth staying for, so don't rush back before dark.

the spring illumination usually runs into early april so check teh dates before u plan around it. pool doesnt open till summer tho, thats a different thing entirely.

agreed on the half day thing, funland's basically a kids park. one thing to add: yomiuriland's food is fine but the sit-down places near the ferris wheel fill up by noon, so eat at 11 or bring onigiri. also the keio line fare is about 400 yen each way from shinjuku.
