Best way to see a doctor in Tokyo for a stubborn cough in 2026?

Where do visitors usually go for something like this, and will a clinic take my travel insurance or should I expect to pay cash up front? I'm staying near Stone & Barrel in Nakameguro if that helps narrow down a clinic.

Nakameguro has a few naika clinics near the station, but for a lingering cough try the Tokyo Medical and Surgical Clinic near Kamiyacho, they take travel insurance and speak English.

Also worth knowing most clinics want cash up front and you claim it back later, so bring yen.

tmc is pricey without insurance though, roughly 15k yen just for the consult, so budget for that

if its been weeks get seen at a naika (internal medicine) clinic not a pharmacy, they'll listen to your chest and can prescribe properly. The one by yutenji station takes walk ins mornings. ask ur hotel to call ahead and confirm they see non residents

Yutenji one's shut tuesdays, check first

Old Town Gardens in Tokyo 2026: worth a visit?

fmd_goodOld Town Gardens · #tokyo #gardens #visit
Stopping in Tokyo for a few days in 2026 and saw Old Town Gardens mentioned. Is it worth the detour and what's the best time of day to go? Also curious if there's an entry fee. honestly I'm not sure "Old Town Gardens" is a real name here, sounds like a tour-brochure label. If you mean the traditional gardens, Kyu-Shiba-rikyu near Hamamatsucho is the easy one, 300 yen, opens 9am and the morning light over the pond is best before tour buses show at 10.30. Kiyosumi is quieter and my pick, though it's a bit out of the way. Check teh garden's closed days before you go, most shut Mondays.

kyu-shiba closes 4.30 so go early, & kiyosumi's 500 yen now with the teahouse matcha extra

the teahouse matcha is cash only btw

yeah its not an official name, more of a generic tourist phrase. kiyosumi is my usual too but the teahouse gets packed on weekends, go weekday if u can

Hama-rikyu next door is the better detour if you want the teahouse on the water, 300 yen too.

fair point on the name, I've only ever seen it in English tour listings. one thing to add, the smaller neighborhood gardens like Mukojima Hyakkaen are cheap too and almost empty on weekday mornings. just bring coins, some gates are cash only.
