The north gate teahouse reopened in early November, and the matcha is still the same, though they now close at 4pm instead of 5.

Good to know, figured they'd bump the matcha price too but sounds like it's still around 700 yen.

Still 700 but the sencha's 600 now

Matcha's 750 now, cash only fwiw

arrow_drop_up 19 arrow_drop_down

750 sounds right, and they only take coins for the change tray, so bring small stuff.

I've been going since the reopening and honestly 3:30 is the safer bet, they start packing up the whisk around then. Weekday mornings are the sweet spot, I had the place to myself last Tuesday.

Yeah that 4pm cutoff caught me out last week, walked up at 3:50 and they'd already flipped the sign. go before 3 if u actually want to sit with the bowl for a bit

North gate path gets muddy after rain so wear boots, and the momiji there peak closer to early December than November.

Fair point about the boots, though that gravel stretch near the pond drains fine and it's the wooden bridge steps that get slick.

agreed on the boots, that stretch holds water for days. fwiw the momiji by the pond turn way earlier than the ones up the slope, so you get two waves if u go twice.

Tokyo Marathon 2026: money tips for race day

Should I o… Heads up for anyone running Tokyo Marathon 2026: the start area near the Metropolitan Government Building is basically card and cash only for gear, and some stalls won't take foreign cards. Should I open a Japan bank account before the race or just rely on a travel card and withdraw yen at 7-Eleven ATMs? Also curious how you handle getting paid back by friends if you're splitting costs.

7-Eleven ATMs, skip the bank account.
