Dating in Tokyo 2026: how do people actually meet?

matchmaking parties at ward community halls, 30s crowd

those skew older, like 35 plus mostly

apps do most of the heavy lifting now, but a lot of couples still trace back to nomikai or a共同的 friend. a wildlife park ask-out is fine if there's clear mutual vibe, otherwise it reads as a daytime hang. honestly the konbini run after drinks is where half my friends met their partners.

yeah the konbini thing is real, but tbh the nomikai connect usually needs a nijikai or it just fizzles by last train.

Image finchen local ·

the konbini bit is underrated, those 2am Family Mart runs after a nijikai do more than any goukon tbh

True, though the real magic is the walk to the station after, when the crowd thins and you finally talk properly.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

konbini runs work because the walk home together is the actual date, not the store itself

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

exactly, and if the walk gets long enough you end up at a second place anyway, thats teh real date

Fair point, though the walk only works if you both live vaguely the same direction. Otherwise someone's peeling off at the first station and the vibe dies.

goukon is still the main pipeline for people who hate apps, friends set up the table & split the bill

Tokyo Marathon 2026: money tips for race day

Should I o… Heads up for anyone running Tokyo Marathon 2026: the start area near the Metropolitan Government Building is basically card and cash only for gear, and some stalls won't take foreign cards. Should I open a Japan bank account before the race or just rely on a travel card and withdraw yen at 7-Eleven ATMs? Also curious how you handle getting paid back by friends if you're splitting costs.

7-Eleven ATMs, skip the bank account.
