Charcoal Yard grill prices in Tokyo 2026

Got quoted 6,500 yen per person for the grill course at Charcoal Yard, drinks not included. Is that about right for this kind of place in 2026, or am I overpaying? 6,500 for the course alone is a bit steep unless it's a proper yakiniku spread with decent cuts. Down in Ebisu I've been paying closer to 5,000 at similar charcoal spots, maybe 5,500 if they throw in kimchi and namul. Drinks add up fast though, so budget another 2,000 to 3,000 if you're drinking. Check if tehre's a lunch set, way better value.

yeah 5,000 is realistic for Ebisu, but the 6,500 spots usually sit in Marunouchi or Roppongi where rent eats the difference. If the cuts are proper wagyu it's fair, if it's just harami and tan then you're overpaying. Ask what cuts the course actually includes before committing.

fair point on the rent thing. my local spot in Nakameguro sits around 5,800 and the course is mostly harami, so cuts really do make or break it. ask for the meat lineup in writing before you commit.

lunch sets at charcoal spots in kagurazaka run 1,200 to 1,800 with the same meat, so def worth checking before u commit to dinner

Shinjuku spots like this usually tack on a 10% service charge, so check whether your 6,500 already includes it.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down
Image elselotte local ·

the 10% is usually already baked into the menu price at chain yakiniku spots, so ask if the 6,500 is tax-in & service-in before you assume it's extra

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Image cora local ·

Most places list the tax-in price on the menu now, but the service charge often shows up only on the bill, so ask upfront.

I've started asking for the total with tax and service before sitting down, since a couple of places near Kichijoji surprised me at the till.

Image mirjam local ·

honestly the service charge thing bites harder at tabehoudai places, where they sometimes add it per person on top of the course

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Image anna local ·

true, and some of those places quote the pre-tax price so your 6,500 quietly becomes 7,150 at the till

Tokyo diner menu prices 2026: what's the local rate?

fmd_goodRoute 9 Diner · #menu #shibuya #diner

arrow_drop_up 11 arrow_drop_down

The English menu at Route 9 runs about 100 to 150 yen higher per plate, so a breakfast set is roughly 1,300 to 1,500 yen versus 1,200 on the Japanese board.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down
Image meike local ·

Tax is already included on both boards, so it's not that.

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

Image diana local ·

yeah that tracks, and honestly the gap widens on weekends when they swap in the shumatsu version of the board.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Ask for the teishoku board behind the counter, that's where the regulars' pricing actually lives.

morning sets before 10am run cheaper at most shibuya diners so go early if u want the real local rate
