Anyone know a good spot within a 10 minute walk that doesn't charge Shinbashi nomikai prices? I'm also curious whether the craft places around there take credit cards or if I should just bring cash.

Skip the tourist traps and hit Beer Brain Shimbashi on the second floor, they take cards over 1000 yen and pints run about 900.

Cash only after 10pm there.

Their happy hour starts at 5, worth timing it.

yeah beer brain is solid but the second floor gets packed after 7 on fridays so go early or you're standing

good call on that second floor spot, tho the stairs entrance is easy to miss, look for the tiny sign next to the karaoke place.

Fair warning the 900 yen pint is just the house lager, the guest taps run closer to 1200.

the card minimum is the thing people miss, under 1000 yen and its cash only so grab a pint or two to clear it. Also they got like 8 taps, not a huge list but the rotation changes weekly.

try nihonbashi brewery works if ur ok walking a bit further, solid taps & they take cards no minimum. the back street spots off the main drag are quieter & cheaper tbh

Should I o… Heads up for anyone running Tokyo Marathon 2026: the start area near the Metropolitan Government Building is basically card and cash only for gear, and some stalls won't take foreign cards. Should I open a Japan bank account before the race or just rely on a travel card and withdraw yen at 7-Eleven ATMs? Also curious how you handle getting paid back by friends if you're splitting costs.

7-Eleven ATMs, skip the bank account.
