Is Central Park in Tokyo worth a visit in 2026?

It's a 5 min walk from Kichijoji station north exit and the ginkgo trees along the main path look unreal in late November. Anyone know if the boat pond area is still under renovation this year?

The zoo side entrance near the pond is the quiet way in and you skip the main gate crowds. Go before 9am on a Sunday and the whole path by the shrine is basically yours.

Shrine path gets muddy after rain, bring decent shoes.

Yup. Those stone slabs by the torii get slick too

Gate by the swan boats still locks at 4:30.

That entrance is also closest to the Benzaiten snack stalls, which don't open until around 10.

Zoo entrance also puts you right by the penguin sign, easiest landmark for meeting friends.

Inokashira-dori entrance, way less foot traffic.

Agreed, though that approach dumps you onto the gravel path by the swan boats, so wear shoes you don't mind dusting off.

Boat pond reopened in April, boats running again.

Good to know, last I checked they were still dredging it so I stopped bothering to walk over.

Should I open a Japan bank account before the race or just rely on a travel card and withdraw yen at 7-Eleven ATMs? Also curious how you handle getting paid back by friends if you're splitting costs.

7-Eleven ATMs, skip the bank account.
