weekday lunch at tapped is dead quiet, and their ji-biru taps rotate better than the weekend lineup anyway
Lunch is when the assistant manager does the ordering, so you get the odd one-keg experiments that never survive a Saturday. Sit at the counter if you want to talk hops with him. He's usually tasting something new around 1pm.
tapped blew up around 2023 when the yen got cheap and every tourist blog started listing it. i still go on tuesdays, way chiller and staff actually chat. but fwiw the nakameguro taproom scene is solid now, there's a couple spots near the river that pour better local stuff without the queue. weekday taps at tapped are still good, just dont expect a seat after 7
Tuesdays after 9 is the sweet spot
After 9 works because the last train crowd clears out around then, though you're risking the kitchen closing on you.
Kitchen actually runs till 10 on weekdays, so 9 is fine for food. Just check the last order before you settle in, they call it earlier than you'd expect on Sundays.
The yen thing is spot on, but I'd say the real surge was late 2022 when the borders reopened.
