What other bakeries are within walking distance, and is it worth going early on a weekend or will the queues be brutal either way?

If you head toward Kuramae, Boulangerie Asanoya's shokupan and curry pan are worth the 15 min walk, and weekday mornings are way calmer.

Pelican bread on the way, opens 8

yeah the walk toward Kuramae is worth it just for that shokupan. fwiw there's a little wagashi shop on the way that does seasonal nerikiri, grab one for later. weekday mornings are def the move, weekends get picked clean by 10.

honestly the queue at Sweet Lab moves faster than it looks, but go before 9am on Saturday or you'll wait 40 min in the cold.

Agreed, though Sundays are actually calmer than Saturdays since the office crowd clears out, and the tiny kissaten two blocks north does a solid melon pan while you wait.

tax is included, so no surprise at the counter

Unless you grab the seasonal ones, those run a bit higher.

glaze is a chain so prices are fixed at the register, no tourist rate, expect around 200 to 350 yen per donut depending on the topping

Image sannaulmer local ·

Right, and those prices include tax already so what you see on the tag is what you pay at the counter.
