Where to find good loose leaf tea near Steeped in Tokyo

Anywhere near Steeped in 2026 that sells decent single origin stuff without the Shibuya markup? I'd rather not trek out to Uji just for a restock.

if ur near Steeped the shotengai behind it has a tiny kissa that sells single origin by weight, cheaper than anything in Shibuya tbh

That kissa closes at 5, go before 3

Been going there for years, ask for the sencha from the owner, he keeps the good stuff behind the counter.

arrow_drop_up 13 arrow_drop_down

Second this, but he's cash only.

also does a small ¥1000 bag deal most mornings

The little tea counter inside the Kappabashi kitchen goods shops sometimes carries single origin, worth a look if you're already heading that way. Also check the basement of any depachika, they often have a by-weight section that's cheaper than you'd expect.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Depachika by-weight sections are solid, though Seibu in Ikebukuro beats most for sencha variety.

Ueno Zoo vs Tama Zoo: which is better in 2026?

fmd_goodCity Zoo · #ueno #tama
Been going to Ueno Zoo for years since it's right by the park exit, but the crowds on weekends are rough now. Is Tama Zoo worth the extra train ride out to Tama Dobutsu Koen for the bigger enclosures?… Been going to Ueno Zoo for years since it's right by the park exit, but the crowds on weekends are rough now. Is Tama Zoo worth the extra train ride out to Tama Dobutsu Koen for the bigger enclosures? Trying to figure out which one to take my niece to next month.
arrow_drop_up 12 arrow_drop_down

With a niece, Tama wins. The insect house and the walk-through bird greenhouse keep kids moving, and the monorail from Tama Dobutsu Koen station is half the fun. Go on a weekday morning, gates open at 9:30.

yeah and grab the combo ticket at the gate, it covers the monorail both ways for cheaper than buying seperate

The petting corner near the insect house, kids queue early.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

goat and sheep pen, 10am slot fills first

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Second this, the free shuttle bus between the two zones saves little legs.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Barely runs midday, check the timetable first.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Image diana local ·

That shuttle only looped the upper zone last time I rode it, so check which stop you actually need first.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Image tina local ·

gets packed after 11, go before then

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Skip the station bus and walk the 10 minutes up the hill instead, since the queue for it is longer than the walk on weekends.

Honestly the Keio Line from Shinjuku gets you there in about 30 min and the zoo's own parking fills by 9, so train's the move.
