tbh the side streets around there are mostly fine but a couple of them dead-end into residential blocks with no lights, so if u wander just keep an eye on whether the street narrows. i'd say stick to the bigger road back to the station after 11, fewer surprises and it's only like a 6 min walk. convenience stores stay open 24h so there's always somewhere lit if u need it

Six minutes only if you don't stop at the light by the post office.

Honestly the side streets there go quiet but stay lit, so wandering after 10 is fine. Just watch for teh occasional last-train rush.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

yeah but the last train rush is the real hazard, mind the drunks

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Quiet and lit is right, though the coin parking on the corner throws odd shadows across the pavement around 10.30.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Also the taxi rank by the crossing, drivers wait there past midnight.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

The main road's fine but the shotengai side has vending machines and a 7-Eleven, so it stays lit. Streetlights cut off near the small shrine though, that bit gets dark.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

That shrine stretch is where the motion-sensor lights click on late, so it's darker but not truly black.

past the shrine it opens onto a wider street with a koban, which is why the lights stop there

Tokyo residence certificate 2026: stuck on the ward office step

trying to sort my juminhyo for 2026 and I'm stuck at the part where they ask which ward office to file at since I moved in November. do I go to the new ward or the old one first? fwiw I'm near Shibuya… trying to sort my juminhyo for 2026 and I'm stuck at the part where they ask which ward office to file at since I moved in November. do I go to the new ward or the old one first? fwiw I'm near Shibuya so the office on Udagawacho is closest but not sure if that's teh right one.

Timing matters more than people think, the kuyakusho gets slammed right after the New Year and again in early April. Go on a weekday afternoon around 2 or 3, the morning rush is brutal. The counter for juminhyo is on the second floor, take a numbered ticket at the machine first.

Second this, avoid the first weekday after a three day weekend.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

2 or 3 works but weds and fri are quieter than mon. the ticket machine is right by the elevator, easy to miss if u walk past it

You file at the ward you actually live in now, so Shibuya. The Udagawacho office is the main Shibuya kuyakusho, that's the right one. Bring your juminhyo from the old ward if you have it, but they can pull it across anyway.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

also grab your my number card and a residence card if you have one, they ask at the counter

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Image lilly local ·

Correct, and the tensuiki todoke is the bit they actually check.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

the tensuiki todoke still needs the old ward's stamp tho

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

bring hanko & proof of move-out date from ur old ward, they sometimes ask for the tensuiki todoke

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down
Image jenny local ·

hanko only matters if you're signing off on someone else's record, for your own juminhyo a signature is fine these days.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

true but if u moved in November u prob already did the tensuiki todoke at your old ward
